Score One for The Team!

"Football is the most popular sport in the world, and in the last few years it has also become a vehicle to address the global issue of homelessness. Each year teams composed of homeless young adults come together for the Homeless World Cup. Team Philippines represented their country with honor and pride at Melbourne, Australia, in 2008, last year at Milan, Italy, and is now preparing to join 64 nations for the September games in Rio de Janeiro.
From off the streets and onto the football field, the participants of the HWC get a once-in-a-lifetime experience that results in a renewed sense of purpose. Former team members of the Philippine delegation have made positive changes in their lives such as continuing their education or obtaining steady employment as an assistant football coach for schools.
By partnering with the 2010 Team Philippines, you will become part of a compelling and compassionate catalyst for change—inspiring Filipinos worldwide as they see their own compete for the chance to succeed on a global stage, while simultaneously moving the world to a greater awareness and responsiveness to the issues of homelessness."

Here's my design of the official 2010 Team Philippines logo

A poster I made in support of the team.
Please do support them also with used soccer shoes, shin guards, cold hard cash and a whole lot of lovin'

The Birth of Nik

I forgot to properly introduce you to this little guy anyway here's a little story about him:

He was the first earth-orbiting pioneer satellite. As time passed, his popularity has gone on the wayside and newer and fancier satellites stole the limelight. Feeling useless and depressed, he exiled himself into the vastness of the universe until he was reduced to a dead pile of orbiting junk.

One day a German scientist astronaut named Dr. Franken Von Stein came into contact with this floating inanimate object. Seeing the potential of this obsolete technology, he had an urge to restore it back to it's former glory. It took 242,485 hours of mathematical equation solving, 324,845 packs of cigarette, and a late night movie starring Christian Slater. It had sparked an idea that was so obvious it was staring him in the face this whole time. He went with this off the wall idea and proceeded with the surgery involving a baboon's heart. After a tedious process of completing the procedure and a caffeine-fueled, nail-biting anticipation... it was a success!

Since the restoration of this satellite took most of the scientist's life and feeling that he had accomplished his life's work, he passed away leaving his legacy to this blue metal machine.  This satellite has since explored various faraway galaxies and went to great lengths to find a place he could call home. Until he stumbled upon this blog and ask me if he could hang here for a while and i said "it's cool, you can hang here for as long as you like." And he never left.

So let me introduce you to my buddy and official blog mascot, NIK the sputnik sweetheart.

Shift the Tide of Power

The never ending battle against the rising price of gasoline leaves a trail of destruction on the pockets of unsuspecting motorists, boring a hole deep into their coin purse. But a group of spartan underdogs stand in the way of its raging onslaught. It will be an uphill battle against the monopoly of power ensuring the lives of our wallets so that their children's children will still have a purpose to hold paper money and other useless mementos.

On the 10th of May in the year 2010, when the planets align and wolves howl three times (or when the voting booths open) be ready to cast your vote.

BTW, I designed the poster.

Adobo never tasted this good!

Philippine Advertising Bible Adobo Magazine featured an article in their MAR/APR issue regarding my entry design for the Uniqlo Cannes Lions T-shirt Grand Prix!

From the thousands or maybe even gazillion submissions from across the globe, 200 designs were shortlisted (and only 2 Filipinos got in including *gasp* me!?). The top 50 semi-finalists has been announced last February, and I made it again but unfortunately my fellow Pinoy compatriot did not share the same fate as i did.

Some empires will rise, others shall burn and only 20 finalists will survive this grueling deathtrap of a competition...
